SumRando Cybersecurity was established in 2011 in Cape Town, South Africa, and relocated operations to Mauritius in 2016. Initially offering SumRando VPN for Windows with 2 VPN Servers in Sweden and the United States (New York), SumRando’s offering expanded to connection servers in 12 different countries. SumRando VPN could be accessed custom clients on Windows and Android or via OpenVPN connectivity on Linux, MacOS, and iOS operating systems.

SumRando Messenger launched in 2014, offering Android users encrypted communication channels and the first chat application to allow for messages to be destroyed from both the sender’s device and a the message recipient’s device. Other products included SumRando Web Proxy and SumRando Stash. These products were available in 14 different languages.

The SumRando Digital Security product suite was leveraged by millions of global users until September 2020. The company elected to discontinue offering consumer-based services due to logistical complications introduced by COVID-19.

SumRando continues to advocate for uncensored, secure internet access for users around the world, with a particular passion for those in the Global South.
