  • Can I send SumRando PGP encrypted emails for my questions or account support?

    Yes! Please be sure to include your public key so we may respond.

  • I am having problems processing my credit card payment. What should I do?

    We are sorry you are having payment issues. Please email us at support@sumrando.com so we can help resolve any issues you are experiencing.

  • When connected to SumRando VPN on Android, my IP appears to have changed, but it says disconnected. Why?

    Hit the refresh button (circle arrow with the letters IP in the middle of it). This will refresh the info inside the app to verify the connection.

  • Where can I use SumRando?

    You can connect through SumRando as long as you have an internet connection and SumRando software installed or access to the SumRando website.

  • What forms of payment do you accept?

    SumRando accepts PayPal, Credit Cards (processed by PayPal), and BitCoin. To make other payment arrangements, include sending cash and/or anonymous payment methods, please email accounting@sumrando.com.

  • What languages does SumRando support?

    We are available in 14 different languages - Arabic, Chinese-Simplified, Chinese-Traditional, English, French, German, Hindi, Indonesian, Pashtu, Persian, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, and Urdu.

  • Where can I sign up for a SumRando account?

    You can sign up on our website or through any of our applications. (Please note, that if you sign up on our website for an account to use on SumRando Messenger, you will be required to provide an email address. If you would like to create a SumRando Messenger account without providing your email address, please create the account from the SumRando Messenger application).

  • Are usernames case-sensitive?

    Yes.

  • I forgot my password. Now what?

    You can reset your password to your email address by clicking this link or email support@sumrando.com for assistance. For your privacy, we are unable to manually reset passwords or send them to you. They are stored encrypted on our servers and are inaccessible to our staff.

  • Where do I go to manage my SumRando account?

  • Does my SumRando account work with all of your products that require a log in?

    Yes. Note, that in order to use an account created on SumRando Messenger with SumRando VPN, a linked email is required.

  • What information do you store in your servers about me and my account?

    SumRando is a security and privacy company. Our goal is to preserve your privacy and protect your information. In support of this philosophy, we store only the bare minimum in order to provide our services to you.

    For SumRando VPN users, this includes information you provide to us - username, first name, last name, email address, and credit card information (for paid users only) - when you used the VPN service, and how much data was used. This information is used and stored for account management purposes only and is never shared with third parties.

    For SumRando Messenger users, this includes your username, linked phone numbers and/or emails, contacts, and messages sent and received that have not been deleted or destroyed.

  • So you don't log any of my Internet activity when I am using your VPN?

    SumRando does not monitor, analyze, process, or store any information pertaining to your web-based activity whilst using the VPN. SumRando keeps a record of when you connected and how much data you used each month in order for us to provide the service to you.

  • Will you share the information you do have with law enforcement or other third parties?

    SumRando is located in Mauritius, which has some of the strongest privacy laws in the world. Our main servers are located in Sweden which has a long and strong track record for valuing and enshrining individual privacy and security. SumRando does not disclose, trade or sell any personal information to third-parties. This is outlined in our privacy policy.

  • What is a VPN?

    VPN stands for virtual private network. VPNs provide a virtual version of a secure physical network, where the information you send over the Internet is encrypted and secured from others on the Internet. We have an excellent video on our website that explains what a VPN is and does - check it out here.

  • Why should I use a VPN?

    There are quite a few reasons why you should use a VPN when you are surfing the web.

    1. Secure your internet connection from unsecured internet networks like the free internet in coffee shops, hotels, and other providers.
    2. Bypass country filtering and access content not available in your country.
    3. Anonymize your Internet activity and preserve your privacy. SumRando prevents hackers, marketers, and governments from tracking what you do online.

  • What will my ISP see when I am connected to SumRando VPN?

    Your ISP will only see a secured, encrypted connection to our VPN server. They will not be able to see what you are doing while connected to the VPN, including what websites you are visiting.

  • What VPN protocol does SumRando use and what level of encryption?

    SumRando uses OpenVPN, an open source VPN protocol, and 128-bit AES encryption in order to protect your Internet connection without compromising performance.

  • What do I look like online when I use SumRando VPN?

    You look like “some rando.” When you connect to SumRando, a couple of things happen. First, all of your internet activity is encrypted, secured from your ISP, hackers and other people out there looking to track your internet usage. Second, your IP changes to one of SumRando’s IP addresses. This IP rotates daily and is the same IP for all the users connected to the VPN server. This means your internet activity is pooled with thousands of people using that IP address.

  • I always hear the words proxy and VPN together. Are they the same thing?

    No. A web proxy and VPN are two different things. A web proxy (which SumRando offers as well) allows you to reroute your web traffic through one of our servers, without the full encryption and additional protection of an encrypted connection of a VPN. It changes your IP address and allows for some protection of your internet traffic throw your web browser.
    Note: It only works for web traffic. A VPN encrypts all internet traffic on your computer or device, and also allows for the anonymisation feature of a proxy.

  • Where are your VPN servers located?

    We have VPN servers located in Sweden, Ireland, the Netherlands, Spain, the US, Hong Kong, Singapore, Brazil, Turkey, and Jordan. VIP Servers are only available to Platinum users and the US, the Netherlands, and Ireland are only available to Free and Platinum users. All other servers are available to all users around the world.

    As a company truly committed to your privacy and security, we own all of our own hardware and perform all of our own installations and maintenance.

  • Can I stream video when connected to SumRando VPN?

    Yes! You can stream videos online while connected to SumRando VPN.

  • Do I have to have a SumRando account to use SumRando VPN?

    No. We understand that sometimes you just don't want to share your personal information like your email address. Because of that, we have the Anonymous Account feature. Just download the software, launch the application, click Anonymous Account, and connect to the VPN server of your choice. You get 1GB of data free every 30 days with the Anonymous Account feature.

  • What are the different SumRando VPN account types?

    We offer 3 different SumRando VPN accounts - Anonymous Account, Free, and Platinum. For more information on our different plans, check our our Plans Page.

  • What is your logging policy?

    SumRando only "logs" your connect and disconnect times, the amount of data transferred for accounting purposes, and other account management information to make sure things work for you. We do not monitor what you do while connected to the service.

  • What platforms can I use SumRando VPN on?

    All users are able to use our application to connect to our VPN servers on Android or Windows. Platinum users can also download OpenVPN config files for connectivity on iOS, MacOS, and Linux.

  • What versions of Windows can I use with SumRando VPN?

    SumRando VPN is compatible with Windows XP or higher.

  • Where can I download the SumRando VPN for Windows software?

  • I am having problems using the service. What should I do?

    First, try restarting your computer and reinstalling the service.

    If that doesn't fix the issue, please submit a support ticket at support@sumrando.com so we can help you troubleshoot. To help speed up the ticket process, please provide as many details as possible, including what version of SumRando VPN you are using, version of Windows, and when you were last able to connect to the service.

  • How do I uninstall SumRando from my computer?

    There are two paths to uninstall SumRando VPN from Windows. Start > All Programs > SumRando > Uninstall SumRando OR Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs > SumRando > Right Click > Uninstall

  • What versions of Android can I use with SumRando VPN?

    SumRando VPN works on Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) or higher.

  • Where can I download the SumRando VPN for Android software?

    You can download it from the Google Play Store.

  • I'm having problems using the service on my Android device. What should I do?

    First, try restarting your phone. Sometimes Android gets a bit confused with VPNs. If you are still having problems after the restart, please submit a support ticket to support@sumrando.com so we can help you troubleshoot. To help speed up the ticket process, please provide as many details as possible, including the version of SumRando you are using, version of Android, and when you last connected.

  • How do I uninstall SumRando VPN on Android?

    Uninstall SumRando VPN on Android through the following steps Settings > Applications > Downloaded > sumrando > Uninstall

  • Why did you develop SumRando Messenger?

    Your favourite messenger application was not created with your privacy and security in mind. As it has come to light that your private details are being shared from your conversations, we decided to apply the same principles behind our VPN and proxy to a messenger service.

  • Why should I use SumRando Messenger?

    There are quite a few reasons you should use SumRando Messenger for Android and Web.
    1. It’s free.
    2. We secure your messages from your ISP, phone provider, and whoever else is reading along with your SMS conversations and web chats.
    3. You can delete individual messages or entire conversations from a recipient’s account—never regret a message again.
    4. You don’t have to pay for SMS-packages if you use SumRando Messenger for Android.
    5. We are not Facebook, WhatsApp, or any of those other big name companies that happily analyze, sell and misuse your personal information.
    6. SumRando Messenger for Android offers end-to-end encryption with the Secure Conversations feature.

  • What platforms is SumRando Messenger available on?

    We are currently available on Android and have just released a beta version for web.

  • What version of Android do I need for SumRando Messenger?

    SumRando Messenger works with Android 4.1 or higher (Jelly Bean, Kit Kat or Lollipop).

  • Where can I download SumRando Messenger?

    You can download SumRando Messenger for Android from our Downloads Page.

  • How are messages sent?

    For Android, we use Google Cloud Messaging (GCM). Don’t worry, all of your messages are encrypted by us and are not readable by Google.

  • How do I go to a "Secure Conversation" that uses end-to-end encryption?

    To enter a Secure Conversation on SumRando Messenger for Android, start a conversation with your friend and click the lock icon on the menu bar. (Note, Secure Conversations are not available on SumRando Messenger for Web.)

  • How are you securing my messages?

    For our Secure Conversations on SRM for Android, we use end-to-end public key encryption, meaning that only the recipient of messages can read. ISPs, hackers, governments, and even SumRando are unable to read messages.

    For regular messages in SRM for Android and SRM for Web we use two forms of encryption - SSL and 256-bit AES. This is to secure your information during transit and while on our servers.

    Also, we don’t store information on your phone. To secure your messages, simply sign out of the account on your phone.

  • Does SumRando Messenger use end-to-end encryption?

    Yes! SumRando Messenger for Android's Secure Conversations are encrypted using end-to-end encryption technology.

  • Do I have to link a phone number or email address to my SumRando Messenger account?

    No, you do not have to link a phone number or email address. However, by linking an email or phone number, it does make it easier to find your friends using SumRando Messenger.

  • How do I connect with friends on SumRando Messenger?

    On Android, to connect with people already using SumRando Messenger on Android and invite others to use the application, click on the Add Friend icon on the Manage Friends page. From here you can invite friends to connect with you on SRM through email, text or by SumRando username. If people you know in your contacts already have SumRando Messenger installed on their phone and linked to their email or phone number, just click the SRM logo listed by their name.

    On SumRando Messenger for Web, click the + button next to the "Friends" header, and add your friend's username. Email invites to come soon!


  • What is the difference between "deleting" a message and "destroying" a message?

    Delete removes the message(s) from your account. The other user you were messaging with may still have a record of the conversation. Destroy removes the message(s) from both your account and the other user’s account. The destroy feature gives you full control over the conversation.

  • Am I able to tell if someone has read my messages?

    Yes, provided that the person you are messaging has enabled read receipts. You can find this feature in app settings.

  • I want to change the phone number that is associated with my account. How do I do that?

    On Android, open the application, select settings, and click the discoverability tab. From here, you can add and/or remove linked phone numbers and email accounts.

  • Can I block people on SumRando Messenger?

    Yes. You can do this from your Manage Friends screen.

  • Can I send photos, videos, or other files?

    You are able to send photos, videos, and files to other users on SumRando Messenger.

  • Does SumRando Messenger support group chat?

    Group chat is currently supported on SumRando Messenger for Android. Click on the conversation button, and create a group conversation.

    Group chat support for SumRando Messenger for Web will be available in November 2016.

  • Can I set a timer on my sent messages, photos, and videos?

    Yes! The self destruct timer feature is available on SumRando Messenger for Android and is available on a per-conversation basis. To set your self-destruct message timer, select the stop watch icon in the message bar and select the self destruct time. The message will be automatically deleted in the time frame beginning when the message is first opened by the recipient. To turn off the timer, simple click the icon again and set it to "No Self-Destruct." Self Destruct messages will be available for SumRando Messenger for Web in November 2016. (Note, messages sent from Android and are read on Web will still disappear at the set time.)

  • Does SumRando Messenger for Android prevent someone from taking a screenshot of our conversation?

    Yes.
